ABOUT US
The Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1927 with Walter Scott serving as our first Fire Chief. The department was initially formed in the Town of Appomattox but eventually transitioned to calls for the entire County of Appomattox. On average our fire department responds to around 300 calls for service each year with our highest call volume occurring in 2018 with 368 calls for service. We respond to a variety of different call types and in the last year alone 56 different types of incidents. Those incidents vary from Motor Vehicle Crashes, Structure Fires, Hazardous Materials Incidents, and Technical Rescue Situations. Our department is 100% volunteer and operates using 30 volunteer firefighters who staff 3 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Tanker, 2 Crash Response Vehicles, 2 Brush Trucks, a Command Vehicle and two water rescue boats.
